Abstract:

The synergistic flame retardant effect of zinc Borate in intumescent flame retardant polypropylene was studied by oxygen index, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The addition of zinc Borate can significantly increase the oxygen index of intumescent flame retardant polypropylene (PP) at low dosage, but when the dosage exceeds a certain value, the oxygen index decreases sharply. TGA showed that the amount of zinc Borate was 2 .5 parts, 5 0 0 ℃ of the residual Coke amount of the maximum value. This is in good agreement with the oxygen index. Scanning electron microscope observation of zinc Borate dosage is 2. At 5 PHR, large bubble pore structure appeared in the Char left from combustion. Such large cells have very thin walls. Therefore, we believe that the flame retardant mechanism of this system is that the glass-like substance formed by the decomposition of ammonium polyphosphate and the decomposition of zinc Borate form an emulsion system covering the combustion surface. The system stabilizes the bubbles generated by the decomposition of ammonium polyphosphate and forms an effective isolation layer to improve the flame retardant performance

Abstract:

flame retardant synergist zinc Borate was added into halogen-free and halogen-free flame retardant polyethylene, and its properties were tested, including mechanical properties and flame retardant properties.
